Calabash
is a wonderful little town located in Brunswick County. It is conveniently
located about 45 minutes South of Wilmington, 10 minutes North of Little River
and about 15 minutes North of North Myrtle Beach. Calabash was originally
considered to be part of Little River (which is in South Carolina). Calabash
was incorporated in 1973 and in 1989 consolidated with Carolina Shores. In
1998 Carolina Shores was removed.
In the 1940’s and 50’s people started calling Calabash the “Seafood Capital of the World”. You will understand why it has earned this name when you try some of the fresh seafood prepared Calabash-style, a low country style of cooking, in some of the great restaurants in the area.
Calabash also has many specialty stores and local art galleries. You may find goods there that cannot be found anywhere else in the area.
Brunswick County is surrounded by over 30 championship golf courses. It will be hard to make a choice between these 30 courses and the many other courses offered along the Grand Strand.
